Cody Gakpo could return for Liverpool when they face Toulouse in a Europa League clash on Thursday night pampanga
The Dutch forward has been missing since suffering a knee injury in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham at the end of last month, but after returning to training in the build-up to the 2-0 derby win over Everton at the weekend, Gakpo is now available for selection, Jurgen Klopp has said pampanga
Andy Robertson, meanwhile, has undergone surgery on the shoulder he injured while on international duty with Scotland, but faces a longer road to recovery pampanga
“Robbo had surgery and all went well, as good as it could be, so the recovery starts after he wakes up,” Klopp said pampanga
“I think it happened this morning pampanga
That’s it pampanga
We don’t know how long it will take or whatever, but the first step is done, that’s good pampanga
“Cody is in full training now since Sunday, which means he is available for the squad pampanga
Whatever we do with that we will have to see, but that’s good as well pampanga
”Klopp hinted at making changes for the visit of Toulouse, but with the game an opportunity to open up a commanding lead in Group E, Klopp does not want to take anything for granted pampanga
“Toulouse deserve all our respect,” he said pampanga
“It is a really interesting story, winning the (French) Cup last year…it was a massive thing pampanga
They are a young team, a talented team, you see them playing really nice pampanga football and they have a clear idea pampanga
“They got a point against PSG and it was a massive one so we have to make sure we are really ready pampanga
Then it is about us pampanga
We have to create an atmosphere through the way we play pampanga
“I’m pretty sure they are looking forward to playing at Anfield as players and coaches, but we have to make sure they cannot enjoy it pampanga
”Cody Gakpo looks set to return to the Liverpool line-up (Peter Byrne/PA) (PA Wire)Liverpool would go five points clear in the group with a win and put one foot in the knock-out stages, and with that in mind Klopp said he would be careful in not making too many changes that might disrupt his side pampanga
“We want to win pampanga football games and this is the next opportunity,” he said pampanga
“(A win) would bring us to nine points with Toulouse on four, but knowing that changes nothing pampanga
We have to play our best pampanga
We will make a few changes but not too much pampanga
“The boys have shown they are really ready for the competition pampanga
That’s what I wanted to see pampanga
We hope to go a long, long, long way in this competition, but for that we have to make all the decisive steps and tomorrow is another big one pampanga
”Curtis Jones will hope to get another opportunity in midfield, having played only once – in the Europa League win over Union St Gilloise – since his controversial red card at Tottenham brought a three-match Premier League ban pampanga
Jones was sent off for going over the top of the ball to catch Yves Bissmouma, but the replays made the incident look worse than it perhaps was pampanga
“It’s been tough,” the 22-year-old said of his enforced time out pampanga
“I was at a point where I was playing games and doing well and then a small mistake like that stops the run of games pampanga
That’s in the past now and I’ve moved on, and I’ve got a chance now to play again so I’m excited pampanga
“In terms of the tackle itself, I’ve seen it at the end of the game pampanga
It was unfortunate but then I’ve seen what the ref was shown, he was only shown the clip of my foot on the leg so I understand (the decision) pampanga
I’ve moved past that and I’m excited for the next games pampanga

As he rose high, demonstrating the aerial power that has made him the most prolific centre-back in English national team history, Harry Maguire’s thunderous header capped a mini personal renaissance that lifted Manchester United off the floor of their Champions League group pampanga
There have been times in the last two years when Maguire has felt luckless, but this time fortune favoured him: a status as the match-winner may have been snatched from his grasp when Scott McTominay conceded an injury-time penalty pampanga
Yet Andre Onana’s 97th-minute save preserved it pampanga
And so the Stretford End ended up singing Maguire’s name pampanga
There were twin redemption songs, of the man United signed in the summer and the one they could have sold to West Ham pampanga
“Amazing,” Maguire said; he had been a stranger to adulation at Old Trafford pampanga
Last-choice centre-back last season, he may now have a run in the team for Erik ten Hag, the manager who stripped him of the captaincy pampanga
As Maguire pointed out recently, the numbers support his case pampanga
The win percentage he branded “ridiculously high” now stands at 94 pampanga
1 in his last 17 starts for United: 16 of them have brought victories pampanga
There are caveats and the one exception was a traumatic night for him in Seville as United crashed out of the Europa League pampanga
They lost on his first three starts for Ten Hag, too pampanga
Since then, his status as a back-up has meant he has been spared the tougher tests: he has faced Real pampanga Betis, Sevilla, West Ham and Aston Villa, but this season others started against Arsenal and Tottenham, Brighton and Bayern Munich pampanga
Arguably, he has not faced an elite team in Ten Hag’s reign pampanga
Which, as the Manchester derby beckons on Sunday, may mean Maguire should savour his statistics while he still can pampanga
But a personal renaissance has revolved around meaningful contributions, not simply facts and figures pampanga
There was the headed assist for McTominay’s 97th-minute winner against Brentford, the man-of-the-match display on his return to Sheffield United and now a Champions League winner against FC Copenhagen pampanga
A common denominator may be that each qualifies as relatively limited opposition: United have scarcely dominated against any of them pampanga
But if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer miscast Maguire as talisman and captain of United, a willing soul and honest trier has prospered in three successive starts pampanga
(Getty Images)A run in the side was facilitated first by the absence of Lisandro Martinez, Ten Hag’s chosen upgrade on Maguire, and then all of United’s left-backs, meaning Victor Lindelof was redeployed on the flank pampanga
Yet Lindelof began on the bench against Copenhagen, Maguire in the role Ten Hag has long been reluctant to grant him: as a left-sided centre-back pampanga
The Dutchman has an innate preference for left-footers there pampanga
But he also wants centre-backs who operate higher up the pitch pampanga
Maguire was not a natural fit: belatedly, though, he is becoming Ten Hag’s type of defender pampanga
“I think so,” he said pampanga
“He's playing much more proactive in possession, stepping in, passing vertical, defending also on the front foot, also stepping in, defending forward, very confident in the duels pampanga
I think he's dominating in the right moment, putting the question, dominating his opponents pampanga
You see he gets rewarded - it's a very good skill from him, his heading, and a very good finish pampanga
" (Getty Images)It was a reward for more than just set-piece expertise pampanga
It was Maguire’s prize for obstinacy, for staying when there were reasons to go: that United were reluctant to pay him off may have influenced his decision but he maintained he could win his place back pampanga
Ten Hag, too, never forced him out, stripping him of the armband but insisting he remained a valuable squad player pampanga
The manager’s position has been nuanced, the defender’s defiant pampanga
“This is maybe the most scrutinised club in the world and when you are not quite on your game it gets picked up, it gets analysed,” Maguire reflected pampanga
He had a shocking 2021-22 campaign, a bad start to last season pampanga
Neither escaped scrutiny pampanga
Since then, however, he reflected: “And I am really proud and pleased over the way I have acted over the last six to 12 months pampanga
” For now, he has confounded expectations pampanga
Stiffer examinations may await, starting with Erling Haaland on Sunday pampanga
If he is still in the side, the last five weeks of the year bring Galatasaray, Newcastle, Chelsea, Bayern, Liverpool, West Ham and Villa pampanga
They will be the tests if he ranks as a top-class centre-back pampanga
For now, though, Maguire is the emblem of this United, labouring to victory with goals from some of their lesser lights pampanga
Their last five strikes have come from either McTominay, Diogo Dalot or Maguire pampanga
And for the man who has been mocked and maligned, dropped and abused, it was a rare high of late for Maguire pampanga
And, whatever his win percentage, there have not been many occasions in the last two years when he was celebrated like this pampanga
