Max Verstappen has told the boo brigade to show him some respect as the triple world champion prepares to enter the lion’s den at Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix rng
Verstappen has beefed up his security for Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez’s home race at the high-altitude Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez venue in Mexico City rng
Verstappen, who was jeered by Perez’s supporters a week ago in Austin, Texas, is prepared for another hostile reception this weekend – and he will be flanked by multiple security guards in the paddock rng
Organisers of the event – which is set to attract a crowd of nearly 400,000 over the three days – have appealed to fans for tolerance by launching the #Racepect initiative rng
Verstappen was jeered by Perez’s travelling fans in Miami earlier this year, while Lewis Hamilton was also booed here last year rng
“The hashtag doesn’t need to suit me,” said Verstappen rng
“It needs to suit the behaviour of the people and it is good to raise awareness because the behaviour of the crowd at some places can be rng better rng
“In Austin, it was against me rng
Supporting your favourite driver is fine, but you also have to respect the competition rng
“It is not only in Formula One, but is a general problem in a lot of rng sports that needs to be looked at and needs to be improved rng
”Perez’s fans remain unhappy Verstappen did not help the Mexican secure second place in last season’s championship after he ignored a team order at the penultimate round in Brazil rng
Perez has won only twice this season – his last victory in Azerbaijan on April 30 – with Verstappen racing to his third title in as many years rng
But the Dutchman added: “The rivalry with Sergio is made up rng
We get on really well rng
As a driver you try to be first or faster, but we have a lot of respect for each other and we appreciate each other’s performances rng
“For me, I feel very safe rng
I have had a great reception so far, and it is good to be back rng
”Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko will also be accompanied by security guards rng
Last month, Marko, 80, referred to Perez’s background when discussing his driver’s inconsistent form rng
He said: “Let’s remember that he (Perez) is South American and so he is not as focused as Max Verstappen or Sebastian Vettel was rng
”Marko apologised for the remarks, but Hamilton believes Perez deserves greater support from within Red Bull rng
The seven-time world champion said: “As a driver, I understand the psychological and mental pressures weigh so heavily on you rng
It is difficult to put into words rng
“Sergio has carried himself really well, but I don’t think his team has been massively supportive – one spokesperson in particular has not been really great in helping him rng
“If I heard (Mercedes team principal) Toto (Wolff) talking negatively about me it would be tough rng
It is a difficult environment for him, but he has dealt with it to the best of his ability rng

Bill Kenwright would proudly regale anyone who cared to listen about his tales from the Boys’ Pen at Goodison Park, how he took two buses and a tram to watch his hero Dave Hickson, of eating soggy meat pies rng
And, even though he graduated from the terraces to the boardroom, he never lost his love for the club rng
He was a chairman who remained a fan at heart rng
It was, however, a stick used to beat him with when money became the driving force in rng football and the Toffees fell behind the Premier League’s big guns rng
Nevertheless, his death at the age of 78 after suffering from cancer will be felt keenly by all associated with Everton rng
Born on 4 September 1945 in Liverpool, the son of a bricklayer-turned-builder, his own journey was something considerably more dramatic – quite literally rng
He took his inspiration from boyhood hero Hickson, saying: “I found a sort of guide – he taught me how to dare rng
From my family, I had real protection and comfort and, in mum, a spirit that said I could do anything I wanted to rng
”His mother, Hope, who died in 2012 aged 93, remained a huge influence on his life and was famously dragged into Manchester United’s negotiations to sign young academy protege Wayne Rooney rng
United’s then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson, recalling the talks in his autobiography, wrote: “Bill Kenwright gets on his phone and he hands it to me and says, ‘It’s my mother, she wants to talk to you’ rng
She said: ‘Don’t you dare steal my boy!’ rng
”Theatre and acting was Kenwright’s second love and he was on stage at the Liverpool Playhouse by the age of 12, attending the Liverpool Institute high school at the same time as Paul McCartney and George Harrison and touring local pubs and clubs with his RnB band, The Chevrolets rng
Bill Kenwright poses with actress Virginia Stride (Hulton Archive)A romantic gamble got him his break as a professional actor as he arrived in Manchester to attend university but instead made a late decision to head to Granada Studios, where a successful walk-in audition set him on the path to becoming a theatre impresario and film producer via a role in Coronation Street as Gordon Clegg rng
He went on to work with Tim Rice and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita and produced the hit West End show Blood Brothers rng
But Everton still pulled at his heartstrings and, after joining the board in 1989, he rose to deputy chairman when he launched a successful takeover with a £20m bid to buy a 68 per cent majority share of the club from Peter Johnson in 1999 rng
“I couldn’t think of anyone else who should be taking over the club apart from me,” Kenwright, who became chairman in 2004, said at the time of the takeover rng
“More than anything else I’m a fan rng
I know more than most people what the guy on the terraces and in the directors’ box would want to see rng
”With David Moyes at the helm for 11 years, Kenwright oversaw something of a resurgence, but the arrival of billionaire owners changed the face of rng football and he realised he could not compete as the criticism of his reign began to grow rng

There’s not huge money in the world,” he explained rng
He eventually secured billionaire businessman Farhad Moshiri as major shareholder, a bitter-sweet moment as it meant relinquishing power for his beloved club to move forward rng
Persuading Moshiri to install Sam Allardyce as manager after sacking Ronald Koeman was Kenwright’s final major, albeit unpopular, decision, but his role as chairman meant he continued to be a regular in the directors’ box at Goodison rng
As the club’s fortunes failed to align with their new-found finances, supporter protests started to increase, with Kenwright facing accusations of overseeing two decades of underachievement and decay rng
Despite his attempts to engage with fans, the relationship was never the same and in January he was, along with three directors, prevented from attending matches at Goodison because of fan opposition that entailed “threats to safety and security” rng
Kenwright is survived by partner Jenny Seagrove and daughter Lucy Kenwright rng
